You've got the peanut butter, we've got the chocolate!

Recently, Nature published this article on what I think is going to be a really awesome interface between neuromorphic engineering (Boahen lab) and a biologically-relevant software brain simulation, SPAUN (Eliasmith lab). It's a pretty inspiring push to exploit the benefits of neuromorphic hardware and start embodying brain simulations in brain-like material, joining the forces of two huge names in the field of Neuroscience. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited about this project in particular and the fusion projects it will inspire.

And I'm not the only one who's excited. In response to Boahen's suggestion that SPAUN be embedded in neuromorphic hardware, Eliasmith enthusiastically agreed that it would be perfect, excitedly exclaiming: "You've got the peanut butter, I've got the chocolate!"

While this quote ranks really high on the omgsocute scale, it's also so awesome to see scientists further along in their careers getting so excited about the work they do and the new ways in which it can be cast. I'm really looking forward to a day when I can call up any one of my science buddies and propose awesome project that will build the future. So in honor of excited nerdery and kickass collaborations, here's a simple recipe for peanutbutter cups.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook time: 20 mins
Makes 36 mini cups

Ingredients

    * 1 cup peanut butter (I used the crunchy kind) * 400g chocolate (1¼ cup chocolate chips, 1 gigantic Coop chocolate bar, chunked) * ½ cup powdered sugar * ¼ tsp salt * 4 Tbsp butter, softened

    Instructions

    1. In a double boiler, slowly melt the 400g chopped chocolate. Stir occasionally 2. While the chocolate is melting, mix the 4 Tbsp butter with 1 cup peanut butter. 3. Sift together the confectioners sugar and chocolate, and add to the peanut butter mixture. Beat until smooth. 4. Once the chocolate has melted, line a muffin pan with papers and place a small dollop (2 tsp) chocolate on the bottom of each cup. Drop the pan on the counter a few times to flatten the chocolate. Stick this in the freezer for 5 minutes, while the chocoalte hardens. 5. Remove muffin tray from freezer and add 1 Tbsp peanut butter mixture to each cup. Drop again to flatten, and freeze for 5 minutes. 6. Once the peanut butter has hardened, remove from freezer, and dole out another 2 tsp chocolate over each cup. Freeze again until the chocolate hardens.

You're done! Bring them to your lab and save a few extra for Danny :)
